הרב ד"ר יחיאל יעקב וינברג ז"ל, אשר התפרסם עוד בשנים שלפני מלחמת העולם השנייה כרב, פוסק והוגה. בימי מלחמת העולם הראשונה, השתלם באוניברסיטאות ברלין וגיסן ובשנת תרפ"ג – 1923 קיבל תואר ד"ר ועמד בראש בית המדרש לרבנים בברלין, עבר את השואה על מוראותיה, ולאחריה התגורר בשוויץ שם למד בישיבת "עץ חיים", פעל במישור הציבורי, ועסק בהוצאת כתביו לאור.
בשוויץ היה מקורב מאוד למשפחת וינגורט, אשר דאגה למחסורו בהיותו שבור וערירי.
הרב ויינברג היה כותב פורה עד מאוד, וספריו "לפרקים", "שרידי אש" ועוד הפכו למוכרים ומשפיעים בקרב ציבור שוחרי התורה, ובכלל. כתביו הם מהנלמדים והנחקרים ע"י רבים, ומהווים עד היום מקור לשיח ולדיון.
קשר מיוחד היה לו לאחייניו ומשפחתו המורחבת אשר ברובה היגרה לארה"ב .
אל ארכיון "גנזך קידוש השם" הועבר לאחרונה אוסף מכתבים, רשומות, טיוטות מאמרים, תצלומים והתכתבויות עם בני המשפחה. האוסף הועבר ע"י אחייניתו, הגב' קורן המתגוררת בארה"ב. מדובר במסמכי מקור אשר נשמרו במצב מיטבי.
מפאת חשיבותו הרבה של האוסף, החליט ארכיון "גנזך קידוש השם" לטפל בו ברמת דחיפות ראשונה, והוא עתיד לעלות לתכנת הארכיון ספיר של אידאה בהקדם. הטיפול באוסף דורש שימור, תרגום וקטלוג ברמה גבוהה.
בעקבות הקמת האוסף, הצטרפו גם בני משפחת וינגורט למיזם, ומעבירים לארכיון "גנזך קידוש השם" חומרים נוספים ורבים המצויים ברשותם.
החזון הוא להקים אוסף מסודר ומשמעותי, אשר יאפשר למידה והבנה של פועלו של הרב ויינברג ז"ל מהשנים שלפני המלחמה ועד פטירתו בשנת 1966.
כמו כן, תינתן במה לעבודות מרכזיות שנעשו על כתביו ע"י תלמידיו, וחוקרים שעסקו בהם.

Rav Dr. Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg z”l was renowned before World War II as a Rav, posek, and thinker. During the First World War he studied at the Universities of Belin and Giessen and in 5683 (1923) he received his doctorate. He served as the head of the Rabbinical Seminary (Beis Medrash l’Rabbonim) in Berlin. After surviving the horrors of the Holocaust, he moved to Switzerland where he studied in Yeshivas Eitz Chaim. He was a public activist and worked on publishing his writings
He became close to the Wiengort Family, who took care of the needs of this broken and lonely person
Rav Weinberg was a prolific writer, and his works L’Prakim and Seridei Aish, among others, became well known and influential in the Torah community and beyond. His writings are studied and researched by many, and to this day are the source of discussion and debate
He had a close relationship with his nephews and nieces and extended family, most of whom emigrated to the United States
Ganzach Kiddush Hashem recently received a collection of his letters, records, drafts of essays, pictures, and correspondence with members of his family. The collection, comprised of original documents in excellent condition, was donated by his niece Mrs. Corn of the United States
Due to its great importance, the archive department of Ganzach Kiddush Hashem is giving this collection priority. Soon the collection will be digitally uploaded via the IDEA archive program to allow it to be available to the public. The collection requires high quality preservation, translating, and cataloging
The Wiengort Family has joined in the initiative and has forwarded much material to Ganzach Kiddush Hashem
Our vision is to create an organized and significant collection, that will allow studying and understanding the work and achievements of Rav Weinberg zt”l from the years before the war until his death in 1966. It will also be a platform for works written by his disciples andresearchers based on his writings
